You probably have a couple of questions about our shipping services. How exactly does Sendbox work? At Sendbox, we take the questions, feedback and complaints from our community very seriously.

Having this in mind, we have decided to start another blog series titled ‘’Frequently Asked Questions’’. With this series, we intend to deep dive into some of the Frequently Asked Questions we have received about our services in the last couple of months.

For today’s edition will be focusing on international shipments, and subsequently, we will share more questions and answer them as best as we can.

Question: How are delivery rates calculated on Sendbox?

Delivery rates on our platform are determined by the weight of the package and its delivery location. Hence, we advise that you know the actual weight of your package to prevent a ‘’supplementary charge” (explained below).

Question: Can I drop-off my packages?

Yes, you can. While booking your shipments on our platform, you have the grand option to choose between dropping off your packages or having our courier partners pick them up from you. Never worry! This pick-up option comes with no fee.

Question: Are international deliveries door-step deliveries?

Yes, they are. However, you can also request to pick-up your packages from designated areas.

Question: What countries does your courier partner deliver to?

Our courier partners deliver to anywhere in the world apart from Russia.

Question: What is the delivery timeline for international shipments?

The estimated delivery timeline for international shipments is 3–5 working days after pick-up or drop-off. Delivery delays can be caused by e.g. weather events, Customs or strikes. In case your shipment has not arrived within 10 days after the expected delivery time, please contact us.

Question: Do you facilitate the shipments of drugs?

Yes, we do. However, the shipper of the package will have to attach a doctor’s prescription with the receiver’s name. If this document is not provided, we will not be able to facilitate delivery.

Question: Do you facilitate the shipments of edibles?

No, we do not. This is because perishable items are likely to decay or go bad quickly.

Question: Are custom charges incurred on international shipments?

Yes, international shipments are liable to be taxed by customs. Every shipment that leaves Nigeria has to go through an import procedure determined by Customs law in the destination country, and shipments are cleared through the value and quantity of the package(s).

Question: Why is Customs holding my shipment?

Shipments must be custom cleared at destinated countries. Customs clearance processing times differ from country to country and cannot be influenced by our courier partners or Sendbox. For some countries, duties and taxes may be due. Customs may hold your shipment because they require more information. In this case, they will contact you directly.

Question: What is a ‘’Supplementary Charge’’?

This is incurred when the actual weight of a package is more than declared weight. Warmly note that packages dropped off or picked up by our courier partners are re-weighed before forwarding for delivery, hence an extra charge may be incurred and Sendbox won’t be responsible for this charge.

Question: Are packages insured on Sendbox?

Yes, they are if paid for. We have two insurance plans:

  1. Standard Insurance: This insurance is free. However, should there be an issue of missing packages etc, you will only be liable to a compensation fee of N10,000 (regardless of the worth of the package).
  2. Extended Insurance: This insurance isn’t free. The charge for this insurance is N1,500 for packages valued below N100,000 and 2% of packages valued above N100,000. If there is an issue of missing packages etc, with proof and a laid claim, you are liable to a compensation fee up to N200,000 coverage.

Question: Do you import to Nigeria?

No, we don’t at the moment. However, we are taking active steps to make this possible on our platform.
